David L. McCauley started working for the University in 1949 as a janitor in Winston Dormitory. He then moved up the ranks to become the head of the housekeeping division. He directed the work of 110 employees in 29 residence halls and 306 student apartments.

He was cited for “quietly earning the friendship and respect of many a student and University employee, giving unstinting loyalty to the institution and the diverse thousands of students he has served.”
