Herbert L. Paylor, who retired in 1983, served the University for more than 30 years as a custodian and member of the Physical Plant staff.
He first tended New East building, then Mitchell Hall.
His citation quoted the chairman of the Department of Geology: “From the moment of his arrival as a young veteran of the Korean War to the occasion of his retirement, Mr. Paylor has been a beloved personage around the Department of Geology…one of the persons that all of our alumni would ask about.”
He was called a loyal employee, longtime friend and devoted servant of the University.
