James Winstead has spent 26 of his 32 years at the University at Wilson Library, and was cited for having “made that overburdened and constantly busy building habitable and attractive for students and staff.

“His work required his constant attention and initiative to spot uncleanliness and disorder and put them aright without supervision or instruction.”

Special mention was made of Winstead’s efforts to clean the steps and entries to the library after snow or icy weather.

“It is hard to imagine another University building in which such devoted care makes so much of what the University stands for available to so many,” the citation concluded.
