Lillian Y. Lehman joined the faculty 25 years prior to her award as an assistant professor of zoology. After serving as an assistant to the provost for two years, she became the first woman to hold a cabinet-level position in 1971 when she was named registrar and director of institutional research.

“She leads a small, devoted and productive staff,” the citation read, commending Lehman for “countless acts of generosity and kindness to students and staff alike.”

“Lehman leads a complicated office that administers fringe benefits for members of the faculty and EPA non-[faculty] staff and maintains their personnel records, conducts internal institutional studies, supplies needed data to state agencies and supervises the Offices of Records and Registration, Undergraduate Admissions and Student Aid.”
