Erwin M. Danziger had been director of administrative data processing at the University since 1965. During that time, he “has been an innovative pioneer in automating the institution’s business systems,” the award citation read.

“Hard-headed when he needs to be and always persuasive in the interest of the University, he has wrestled with problems of noncompetitive pay scales, limited pay scales, limited resources and natural administrative inertia to push and prod the University into the forefront of institutions with service-oriented, cost-effective data processing operational systems.”

Danziger had represented the University on the board of the Triangle Universities Computation Center for 21 years. In 1985, he was honored by the College and University System Exchange with its CAUSE Recognition Award, which established a $1,000 scholarship at UNC in his name.
