Roy W. Holsten, a UNC alumnus, became dean of men in 1952 and was later named director of student activities. After moving to the School of Business Administration, he spent 13 years as associate dean for corporate relations and was executive director of the Business Foundation of North Carolina before assuming a position as the dean’s senior adviser for development.

In his award citation, Holsten was cited for committing “all his energies to building that school’s strengths for the long future.”

The citation called Holsten a “trusted interpreter of the school’s goals and purposes to the business community, steady and reliable adviser to three deans, teacher, writer, editor, valued counselor to his fellow faculty members and goodwill ambassador for the school to its students and their parents.”
